Water Lead Testing Results
May 28,2024
Dear Families,
Lead in water testing results are in for Richmond Senior High School. We would like to provide an update on our efforts to reduce potential exposure to lead in water. Our facility is taking steps to identify and eliminate potential lead and asbestos hazards, if found, by participating in the Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids program. This effort will fulfill North Carolina requirements related to lead and asbestos and is free thanks to American Rescue Plan Act funding and NC Session Law 2021-180.
As part of this program, Richmond Senior High School completed water sampling from all drinking and cooking taps at our facility on April 16, 2024. You can view the detailed results at the following link: https://www.cleanwaterforuskids.org/en/carolina/.
For any fixtures with lead levels below the state action level, we are practicing low-cost and no-cost clean water habits to minimize potential exposure.
We have identified five fixtures out of thirty-nine with lead levels above the state action level, we are working to mitigate these taps by flushing the lines and replacing the faucets. These fixtures have been taken out of service for cooking and drinking while we implement the above actions.
Protecting the health and well-being of our children and staff is our top priority at Richmond Senior School and we are committed to keeping you informed as we work through this program. For more information on lead in water, check out this informational flyer.

Sincerely,
Mr. Jim Butler
